Building regulations are constantly changing I.E a couple of years ago you could not put a dormer on the rear of your house without planning permission, now you do not require planning permission. There are a lot of factors that come in to decide if you require planning permission or not. Some of these factors are;
-You are not rising above you existing ridge line (the highest point of your roof)
-The property you live in isn’t part ownership or near the end of its lease or live in a flat or maisonette.
-The conversion does not amount to more than 50 cubic meters
-The front of the property does not have a dormer or any slopes modified
-If you home is in a conservation area
