Before the financial crash I was working alongside my dad Brian on new build developments across London— groundworks, structural work, the kind of projects where the margins are tight and the standards are non-negotiable. When the recession hit in 2008 and the banks stopped lending, that work dried up almost overnight. New build sites across the county went quiet. We had to find a different way.
Fox Conversions started in 2012. I was 23. The honest version of how it began is this: Brian fronted the business. We would go to surveys together, meet the clients as a team, and then I would go away and write the quote, manage the process, handle everything. The clients could reach Brian by email — but those emails came to me. He was my mentor and my credibility until I had built enough of my own. Because the truth is, nobody is going to hand a 23 year old the keys to their home and a £30,000 project without some reassurance.
It worked because the work was good. Word spread. By the time I was running projects entirely in my own name, the reputation was already there.
Brian moved on to pursue commercial projects a few years in. I kept Fox Conversions deliberately small and deliberately focused. We do loft conversions, garage conversions and home extensions. That is it. I am not a general builder who turns his hand to whatever comes in — this is all we do, and it shows in the detail.
Every project is personally managed by me from the first survey through to building control sign-off. Not a site manager. Not a foreman relaying messages. Me.

Building runs in this family. My dad Brian is a bricklayer and groundworker — on extension projects he handles the foundations and structural brickwork. Having him on site means I have direct oversight of every stage of a build, not just the carpentry and finishing. There are no subcontracted groundworkers turning up who have never spoken to the person running the job.
My brother works alongside Brian on the groundworks side. Between them they have decades of experience in the kind of structural work that extensions demand — and they work to the same standard I hold the rest of the build to, because they know I will be checking it.
My sister handles interior design. For clients who want input beyond the structure — layouts, finishes, how the new space connects with the rest of the house — she is available as part of the process. It is not something every client needs, but for those converting a garage into a living space or opening up a loft into a master suite, having design input from the same team that is building it removes a lot of the friction that comes from briefing two separate people.
This is what family-run actually means. Not a logo and a tagline — the same people, accountable to each other, on every job.
The same applies to the trades we bring in for specialist work. Our plasterer, plumber and electrician have all worked with Fox Conversions for over six years. They are not pulled from a subcontractor list — they know how I run a site, they know the standard I expect and they have delivered it consistently across dozens of projects. When I say you are getting a personal service, that extends to every person who sets foot in your home during the build.
I take on a limited number of projects each year. Not because I cannot scale — because I will not. Taking on more jobs than I can personally oversee would mean handing off to someone else, and that is not the service I am selling.
You will get a detailed, fully itemised quote — not a ballpark number over the phone. You will get stage payments tied to build milestones, not large upfront sums. You will get a direct line to me throughout, not a customer service inbox.
And when your project is finished, you will have a Building Control completion certificate, properly specified structural work and a finish that genuinely feels like part of the original house.
